Background Information on Desert Biomes!!!!!!!!
Deserts cover one fifth of the world which is 20% of the worlds land. Hot and dry deserts ranges from 20* to 25* Celsius. In summer it can range from 21* to 26* Celsius and the extreme maximum is 43.5*to 49* Celsius. In the Cold desert it can range from 2* to 4* Celsius. Most of the animals that are in the desert are nocturnal and also live underground in burrows. The animals that are found in the Deserts are Armadillo lizard, Banded Gila monster, Bobcat, Cactus wren, Coyote, Desert Bighorn sheep, Desert kangaroo rat, Desert tortoise, javelin, cactus ferruginous, Pygmy owl, Sonoran desert toad, Sonoran pronghorn antelope and finally Thorny devil. Most of the plants in the deserts are ground-hugging and short woody trees. The cold deserts are typically found in temperate zones and almost always in the rain shadow or high mountains. Rain shadow means having little rainfall because it’s sheltered by current topographic barrier. Arid or dry deserts can be found in North America, South America, Africa, and Southern Asia. Semi-arid is found in North America, Europe, Russia, Northern Asia. Rain can occur in some deserts but in other deserts it does rain and it is common for the rain to evaporate before hitting the ground.
